Mosaics are a Skillington Workshop specialty. We have conserved mosaics in churches and cathedrals, in museum collections, in private homes and sometimes straight from archaeological sites.
We have experience working with various types of mosaic including ceramic, stone and glass mosaic. We can treat damaged, stained, dirty and decayed tesserae, replace failing mortar or mountings, and can source and replace missing tesserae.
We recently removed, stored, and re-set the Roman mosaics on display in the newly renovated Jewry Wall Museum in Leicester. Other notable projects included the mosaic floor at St Mary’s Church at Studley Royal in North Yorkshire, and the spectacular Oppenheimer mosaics in Aston’s Sacred Heart Church in Birmingham.
